It has been 300 days since the last pitch was thrown at Lakeshore Senior to close out the 2019 season which saw the Red Sox, A’s and Orioles win their playoff series. After a long wait and countless ups and downs we open the season on Sunday July 19. With some teams opting to pass on this year’s season, coupled with the late start to the season, we will feature a 12 game schedule followed by playoffs.
The Robinson Division will see a battle of 4 teams, with the Cardinals joining LSB. Coach Andrew, who also played with the Dodgers in 2019, put together a young team that will bring youth under his watchful eye and experience. Coach Andrew will lead by example and be a player-coach with the young squad. The Dodgers are back, after a successful first season in 2019 that saw them challenge the Red Sox for first place most of the season. The Dodgers also made it to the Division final in 2019 and coach Anthony is looking forward to this summer as a serious contender. The Jager Bombers enter their 3rd season with coach Sean looking to improve again. The Bombers in 2019 were one of the most improved teams we have seen in LSB history, finishing just below .500. The Cubs, under skip Jordan, will also look at being contenders in the division. A few roster additions this spring will bring a solid and balanced line up that could see the Cubs improving to their best finish ever.
The Gilmore-Clemente Division will feature a merged group of 7 teams, 3 from the Gilmore Division and 4 from the Clemente. The Orioles will be defending their playoff title and should feature again some impressive baseball with some of the sharpest defence we have seen. Coach Bruno will again find ways to field a solid team that can hit, run, and mesmerize opposing batters. The Padres, under skip Dean, have been impatiently waiting for play to resume. A few of their players were seen in neighborhood parks getting ready for action. Joining our league from BWISL will be House of David. Their coaching staff reached out to us almost a year ago inquiring about playing at Lakeshore and they were soon convinced that our league would offer the challenge that they are looking for. Also new in our league will be the Geese. Under homegrown talent Chandler who will manage the club we expect a very strong team to take the field this summer. Chandler is quite familiar with our League having spared for several teams in recent years while playing at Lac St Louis.
Not to be outdone, the Braves will move up to compete in the group. The Braves ended very strongly in 2019 and were finalists in the playoffs. The Angels will also look at challenging other teams in the division as they join the group. With a 14-6 record in 2019 the Angels, under manager Kevin, finished first in the Gilmore division. With new uniforms and a new name, the Royals will take their young team to the division and hope to play spoiler. The former Vets are looking forward to playing the teams that often called up some of their players in the past.
To all, have a great season, and stay safe.
